A vital part of learning AutoCAD is having follow up support available. The trainers at Grid Point are passionate about helping people succeed and therefore offer unlimited follow up support as part of the course package. We can talk you through issues over the phone as well as connect to your laptop screen remotely to demonstrate the solution.

AutoCAD 2-Day Course

Max 10 delegates
£375 + VAT (£450) includes manual, use of laptop, 
lunch both days and follow up support.

A sample of the course content and exercises:
  • CAD basics, setting up your drawings. 
  • Scale mm to m, move, group, select similar, Rotate and Paste to original coordinates, cut/paste. 
  • Scale, move and rotate drawings to local & global grids. 
  • Export ref line, .dxf and .csv files to total station for setting out, strip drawings, prep layers, new .dwg, point data as .csv versus ref line. 
  • Text and scaling of text, drawing in CAD, Import survey data for as-builts, show slab surveys as +/- mm, text 45°. 
  • Title block (Provided) and plot scales. 
  • HD Bolt setting out/slab edges and corners, drainage pop ups and manholes, pad foundations, setting out from grid lines.

  • What does the course cover?

    Please contact the office for a copy of the course content.

  • Who is the course designed for?

    The course was specifically designed for setting out engineers/site engineers.

  • Where does the course take place?

    At our head office in Wokingham, Berkshire.

  • Do you have parking available?

    Yes, parking is on site at our office.

  • Are you near a train station?

    Yes, a seven minute walk from Wokingham train station.

  • What are the course times?

    Saturday 09:30-17:00, Sunday 09:00-16:30ish.

  • What’s included?

    Use of a laptop for the 2 days, lunches, snacks, teas, coffees and a 100 page manual to take away.

  • Do I need to supply a laptop?

    No, a laptop is supplied for your use on the course.

  • What version of AutoCAD do you use on the course?

    All laptops are installed with a fresh, licensed install of AutoCAD LT 2018.

  • Why AutoCAD LT?

    AutoCAD LT is a very cost effective version of AutoCAD and will enable a site engineer to do what they need to do on a day to day basis, the low cost encourages the self employed delegates to purchase their own copy of AutoCAD.

  • I have AutoCAD 20xx on my laptop – will the course still be suitable?

    Yes, the majority of AutoCAD commands that we use are generic across all versions.

  • Do you supply lunch?

    Yes, a light lunch is supplied both days with snacks for morning and afternoon.

  • How many are on a course?

    A maximum of 10 delegates.

  • How many instructors are there?

    Most courses are run at full capacity and will have a primary instructor and an assistant instructor, if a course is run with 6 or less delegates then 1 instructor will be used.

  • What if I need help after the course?

    We offer unlimited support after the course - subject to fair use. Our instructor can talk with you over the phone as well as communicate via email.

  • Do you run an advanced AutoCAD course?

    Not at the moment.

  • Will you be offering a course in Civil 3D?

    Not at the moment.

  • I do not have any AutoCAD experience is this okay?

    As long as you are able to use a laptop that will be okay but obviously any experience of AutoCAD that you do have will be of help, we would strongly recommend that a basic familiarity be achieved prior to the course, in order to get the most out of it.

  • AutoCAD looks so complicated, how good can I expect to be after 2 days?

    Our method of teaching AutoCAD to Site Engineers focuses on what you need to know in order to carry out your job as a site engineer. The course is taught in a systemised manner that builds on your knowledge throughout the 2 days. With practice you will very quickly become proficient in AutoCAD – don’t just take our word for it, please see the testimonials from engineers that have attended the course.

  • Do you have any tips that will help with mastering AutoCAD?
    1. Create a word document on your laptop and write down in your own words the commands you use and how to use them.
    2. The key to success with AutoCAD is to practice little and often, pay attention throughout the course and start practising the next day - 15 minutes twice a day during breaks is fine
    3. Do not be put off by how complex AutoCAD looks, as site engineers we use a fraction of the commands available and once repeated a few times they are surprisingly easy to remember
    4. Set your expectations – you will experience some frustration to begin with and that is fine, Grid Point are on hand to help you with our follow up support.
