Scan to BIM

Scan to BIM

Embrace the Benefits of Scan to BIM

Laser scanning is an ideal technology when used to create BIM ready models due to its efficiency, accuracy, and level of detail. Laser scanning accurately documents as-built conditions in what traditionally could be inaccessible areas and proves to be invaluable in facility asset management and modifications.

Alongside drone & terrestrial scan to BIM, we also undertake Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to BIM. GPR is a versatile tool which can be used to meet a range of objectives:
  • Buried services and utilities, in particular drainage, culverts and plastic pipes
  • Changes in density relating to voiding or unconsolidated ground.
  • The presence of subsurface features such as obstructions, tanks, pile caps and building lines
  • Graves, crypts, tombs, basements and cellars
  • Saturated ground conditions and wash associated with leaks
  • Reinforcing and rebar in concrete slabs and concrete thicknesses
  • By modelling the GPR, it brings to life the hidden elements, enabling for better informed planning & safer excavation.

BIM Models from Grid Point

We are specialists in delivering BIM models based on 3D point cloud survey data.

With our Scan to BIM service, we can take your Revit point cloud compatible survey files, or we can undertake the point cloud survey for you and then rapidly generate an accurate BIM-ready 3D model using best practices and delivered in Revit format.

Creating accurate digital representations of spaces using scan to BIM not only helps create as-built BIM models for refurbishment and renovation projects, it is also an essential aid for asset and facilities management. Whether you’re surveying a new space or existing facility, we can help by delivering the accurate 3D model output you require.

Steel Frame Structure

This steel frame structure was taken over by a new company & they wanted to accurately fit-out the building to their requirements.

We were chosen to scan and model the building to give a highly detailed representation the existing space.

Our client took on the model and updated it with all their fit-out needs.

What Our Clients Say

  • Nick Weaver Director of Civils Contracting

“Grid Point were appointed by Civils Contracting Ltd to undertake the complex modelling of the earthworks and ground remediation strategy for a new aircraft hangar for Biggin Hill Airport. Grid Point were instrumental in assisting with the development of a cost effective solution. Having understood our requirements they created 3D computer models and consulted with our commercial team to substantiate and effectively tender the project with a clear understanding of costs and quantities. Not only did we have a clear understanding of the earthworks package and financials, Grid Point provided our contractor with a 3D model that was loaded into their plant (CAT D6) enabling the contractor to cut and fill the site without any fuss. It was a great deal safer and faster than using traditional surveying method, it also eliminated the need for us to have additional resources.

  • Micheal Fisher - Countryside Properties (UK) Limited

“Grid Point were appointed by Countryside Properties as our Earthworks Specialists to provide an Earthworks strategy for our development. Grid Point were able to provide a cost effective solution and a feasible Earthworks Strategy all within a tight deadline and budget. Providing such a high level of service enabled Countryside to progress to the releasing of approved working drawings. One of the benefits of taking these services out of the scope of the Civil Engineer is that the Earthworks strategy can be developed ahead of working drawings stage allowing the Stage 4+ design to proceed without question marks over levels and reduces risk of delay to the design programme or rushed last minute changes or otherwise avoidable retaining walls, muck away etc.

Grid Point communicated well with both planning and working drawing engineers smoothing out the design process while reducing groundworks risk and potential groundworks delay due to working in an un-profiled site. Thank you Grid Point for providing reassurance, eliminating the unknown risks and removing the potential for unnecessary costs”

  • Chris Yates BSc (HONS) MCIOB - Operations Manager for Willmott Dixon

“Grid Point played a significant role on the Benenden Hospital project assisting all of the site team providing their expertise in most areas predominantly the Site Engineering, Design and CAD/3D volumetric carried out to assist the commercial team. Grid Point prevented Willmott Dixon from being exposed commercially by providing information gained from experience within Earthworks/Civil Engineering and their exceptional knowledge of AutoCAD making it easier for Willmott Dixon to actively forecast final volumes and costs - the visual drawings produced were extremely beneficial in helping to accurately substantiate works completed”
